The Complete Smokers Life Insurance Guide

The Complete Smokers Life Insurance Guide

Life insurance companies will usually charge smokers more for their policies than for non-smokers for obvious reasons. Smokers are more of a health risk and are subject to more life-threatening diseases attributable to smoking cigarettes.

If you’re a smoker this guide will provide information that can help you get a non-smoker policy at a non-smoker price.

How Insurance Companies Define “Smokers”

Smokers die quickerLife insurance companies view a smoker as someone that has smoked or otherwise taken in nicotine or tobacco within the last 12 months. Also, most of the time, the tobacco designation umbrella is also going to include anyone that smokes medical marijuana.

Many people are now using medical marijuana in some form or another for medical purposes. Whether you are using it as a topical ointment, taking it in a pill form or consuming it through edibles, it’s not going to count against you.

Vaping with nicotine is included in the tobacco smoker’s category but if it’s vaping with no nicotine, you’re probably fine. Just run it by your agent.

If you are old school and occasionally smoke tobacco in a pipe(Occasionally meaning  once a day or once every few days) there are some carriers out there that will give you a non-smoker rate.

Special Life Insurance Program for Those Who Still Smoke But Wish to Quit

If you are trying to quit smoking and haven’t started yet, you can still get whole life insurance, which also includes burial insurance, which is ideal for anyone that’s 50 to 85 years old.  There are programs available that can get a you a non-smoker policy that we have access to.Life Insurance gives peace mind

This is a great option that will give you a non-smoker rate guaranteed for the next three years, no matter what you have going on. It gives you space to maintain a whole life policy at a non-smoker rate while you try to quit.

A life insurance company offering this option will get in contact with you near the end of a three-year period and ask you if you succeeded in quitting smoking. If you have, then the non-smoker rate remains in effect. If you were not able to stop during this period and you are still smoking, then the rate goes up to a smoker rate.

The insurance company will want to make sure you have stopped and will request a blood test to make sure there is no nicotine in your blood.

You don’t pay for it. As long as have quit and your blood test proves it, they will permanently keep you on the non-smoker rating forever.

You can save about 20 percent to 30 percent on the cost of your life insurance by getting into this program.

Actual Non-Smoker Life Insurance Prices

The following non-smoker rates are given to anyone who is still smoking or has smoked within the last 12 months. These rates are current at the time of this article creation. However, rates at the time you contact us may differ, as rates change, regularly.

Again, these non-smoker rates get “locked” for the first 3 years. The life insurance company contacts you at the end of 3 years. If you have been unsuccessful and you are still smoking, they move you to the smoker rate. If you have been successful, and have had no nicotine for 12 months or more, they pay for you to have a blood draw. Act Now, While This Life Insurance Program Lasts

There used to be a lot more life insurance companies that were providing smoker quitting programs. A lot of them have stopped doing so because they’re losing money on these policies. That is due to the first three years guaranteed non-smoker rate regardless if you are still smoking. The chances of a smoker dying within a three year period are greater than for a non-smoker.

So take advantage of that while you can’t, now. We can help you find such companies and set you up with the kind of policy you need while you work on quitting the habit.

We are working on charts that will soon be posted in this blog that will list the rates for smoker and non-smoker policies and the ages to which they apply.
